Ancient High House

Ancient High House Built in 1595, the Ancient High House is one of the finest Tudor buildings in the country. The largest surviving timber framed town house from this date, it has an extensive collection of period furniture and displays a wide range of architectural features. Rooms are decorated in various period styles to reflect the house's history. There is a programme of temporary exhibitions.

Outreach Details
If you are unable to visit the high House we can bring it to you. Sessions are related to the house, including Tudor and Stuart periods. Handling items and costumes can be brought your school accompanied by a member of staff in period dress. This package includes the same choice of activities listed in the activites section below.
There is a Discovery Box available for loan at a cost of £10 + £5 returnable deposit. Please contact the museum for further details.

Additional Information
Teachers are welcome to come along on a familiarisation visit, to discuss their needs and view the facilities on offer. All activities are designed to be cross curricular, incorporating history, maths, geography, design technology and art.
There is a dropping off point for coaches at the church yard in Earl Street, approximately 2 minutes walk. There are no roads to cross.
Packed lunches can be eaten in the High House by arrangement. In fine weather they can be eaten in the churchyard at the rear of the building.
Equality of access and opportunity - visits to the Ancient High House can be tailored to meet groups' needs. Please contact the museum for information.
