Claymills Pumping Station

Claymills Pumping Station Claymills Pumping Station is a preserved sewage pumping station. There are 4 beam engines, 5 lancashire boilers, a steam driven workshop, Blacksmith's forge, early electrical dynamo house and numerous small engines, plus machines and other tools of late Victorian times.

Within this unique setting children are able to handle a wide variety of tools and explore the features of Victorian architecture. They are encouraged to investigate materials, manufacturing methods and function, in order to draw their own conclusions about working conditions in the 19th and 20th century.

The museum provides opportunities to cover a range of cross curricular themed units of work. Wherever possible the itinerary can be tailored to the requirements of visiting schools.
